Reality Star, Dex Turns Into a Household Name After Viral Scene in Netflix's 'Zombieverse'
The Single's Inferno 2 star, Kim Jin-young has become a hot topic as of late for his heroic antics in the survival reality show, Zombieverse
Kim Jin-Young (better known as DEX), the breakout sensation who captured hearts during his appearance on the dating show Single’s Inferno 2, has once again left viewers awe-struck with his remarkable performance in Netflix's latest hit, Zombieverse. The show, which debuted on August 8, takes reality television to new heights by immersing its celebrity participants in an imaginative Seoul besieged by a zombie onslaught. Among the star-studded cast were notable names such as Din Din, Lee Si-Young, Park Na-Rae, Ro Hong-Chul, Jonathan and Patricia Yiombi, and others. The anticipation was palpable for Dex, who had a background in the Navy special forces unit UDT.
In a particular scene that quickly went viral, Dex demonstrated an act of selflessness that left viewers in awe. The moment unfolded with idol Tsuki Fukotomi, a fellow contestant, in a precarious situation. She clung to a rope on a pulley amidst a swarm of zombies in a factory warehouse. Recognizing that a heavier individual was needed on the opposite end of the rope to facilitate Tsuki's ascent, Dex swiftly made his move. He took hold of the rope, allowing Tsuki to be pulled to safety. As if that weren't impressive enough, he then defied all expectations by scaling the rope himself, his unscripted feat captivating even the zombies who momentarily broke character to watch him in amazement.
During a candid behind-the-scenes interview, he shared, "I actually didn't have much time to think, because the zombies were swarming. There was a zombie who grabbed my ankle. I could feel their desire to kill, I really felt like they were trying to pull me down. So I quickly lifted my feet, hooked them onto the rope, and climbed up."
But Dex's heroism didn't stop there. In the episode 8, he once again took center stage with a daring feat. In order to save his fellow teammates Lee Si-Young and Patricia Yiombi from an icy predicament, he braved freezing waters despite his own aversion to cold. Plunging into water as cold as -13 degrees Celsius, he propelled their raft to safety, displaying a level of resilience and determination that few could match.
Reflecting on this remarkable act, Dex revealed, "When I was in the special forces, I did a lot of underwater training. We'd have to immerse ourselves in freezing water, so I have PTSD from cold water. I shower with hot water even in the summer."
Moon Sang-don, the producer behind Zombieverse, couldn't help but express his admiration for Kim Jin Young's audacious feats. He shared, "I was filming and thinking, 'Isn't that dangerous?' But Dex was Dex. To be honest, we were prepared for the possibility of a cast member falling into the water and had a hot tub ready. When Dex got out of the water, we were planning to warm up his body with the tub, but he said he was fine. We were surprised."
