All The Key Drops and Details From Apple’s Wonderlust Event
Finally, we have some long-awaited news about the iPhone 15, Apple Watch Series 9 and upcoming iOS updates.
Apple’s Tim Cook and co., at long last, unveiled the next iPhone, amongst other new products at the latest Wonderlust event yesterday. The latest model of the handset features a standardised USB-C port (goodbye forever lightning port!), in a new titanium and aluminium frame. In case you missed it, read on for the other Apple updates you need to know from the event.
iPhone 15
Thanks to recent regulations from the EU which voted to standardise ports across different devices, the next iPhone will finally adopt USB-C ports. No more cable hoarding on the go, you can now expect to use the standard USB-C across the board without needing Apple’s proprietary lightning cable. Available in five colours, including the new pink that they paraded throughout the event, and two sizes (the 15 and 15 Pro), the handset is considerably lighter than its predecessors. The titanium and aluminium frame on the Pro works to provide a much more lightweight user experience, along with the smoother, rounder edges across both sizes that feel much comfier to grip. And of course, the camera functions got an upgrade too. Highlights from the visual department include Auto Portrait Mode and capabilities to record video in 4K, for sharper concert footage.
Apple Watch Series 9
Your smartwatch just got smarter. Presenting the “watch’s most powerful chip yet”, the newest Apple Watch allows you to access your health data with Siri, has improved dictation recognition and the newly debuted Double Tap feature. If you’ve ever been caught in a pickle when your hands are too busy to tap your watch face, this nifty little trick will be a gamechanger for you. It just requires you to pinch your finger and thumb twice, with the hand that your watch is on, to answer calls, turn off alarms and more. This series of Apple Watches come in pink too, just like the iPhone 15, and is Apple’s first carbon-neutral product. Little wins for the environment!
iOS 17 Release
Even if you’re not planning to get a phone upgrade anytime soon, you can expect a lift to your existing iPhone. The Apple team shared that iOS 17 will be coming to users on September 18. Look forward to functional improvements in Apple’s first-party apps like Messages and FaceTime. Plus, a new safety feature will be available with iOS 17 called 'Check In'. With this, you can update loved ones when you’ve made it to a destination which can come in clutch for late nights out as added layer of security.
