Grand Seiko Impresses with the “Alive in Time through the Five Senses” Exhibition
A sensory affair that brought to life the brand’s rich heritage and “The Nature of Time” philosophy.
First hosted in Tokyo last September, Grand Seiko Asia Pacific recently brought the “Alive in Time through the Five Senses” exhibition to Singapore for a private showcase. As the name suggests, the event brings to life the brand’s rich heritage and philosophy of “The Nature of Time” through the five faculties of sight, sound, touch, taste and smell.
Starting with Sight, guests got to witness the delicate assembly of the foundational 9S and 9R movements by master watchmakers from Japan. Through this demonstration, the spirit of “takumi” (artisan) is laid bare for all to see. Sound brought them on an auditory journey as the 16-beat rhythm of the superlative Kodo Constant-Force Tourbillon is amplified and harmonised with blinking lights in an immersive chamber.
Moving on to Touch, guests got to explore and interact with Grand Seiko’s exquisite timepieces within a meticulously crafted Zen garden setting. Feeling the watches on the wrist definitely deepens the connection to the brand’s technical artistry and craftsmanship. The tour ends with Taste and Smell, as Chef Aeron of Kappou presented a Japanese Hassun experience representing the passage of time and changing of seasons from Winter to Spring.
“Alive in Time through the Five Senses” marks a significant milestone for Grand Seiko Asia Pacific as it is the first ever large-scale exhibition hosted in the region. It follows the first anniversary celebration of the brand’s Marina Bay Sands boutique, which has the distinction of being the inaugural Asia boutique outside of Japan.
