The lead actor of Netflix’s Squid Game, Lee Jung-jae, is set to take on a major role in Disney+’s new series Star Wars: The Acolyte, set to premiere in summer this year. The first trailer for the live-action series was revealed in London at the Star Wars Celebration in April last year and has already drummed up a lot of fan excitement. But one big thing that K-entertainment fans can look forward to is Lee Jung-jae’s role in the highly-anticipated show.

Taking place in the High Republic era from the Star Wars franchise, The Acolyte is set about 50 years earlier than Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, making the series the earliest instalment in the franchise timeline. The Acolyte’s plot will follow a yet-to-be-named former Jedi Padawan (or a Jedi youngling) on their journey with their one-time Jedi Master as they fight crime all around the galaxy.

While fans could only catch hints at what to expect from The Acolyte’s initial teaser, Lee Jung-jae’s role in the show is that of a Jedi Master, though not much surrounding his part has been released to the public as of yet. But eagle-eyed fans did manage to spot the actor in costume while shooting for the series.

Other stars in the ensemble cast include Amandla Stenberg, Joonas Suotamo, Jodie Turner-Smith, Manny Jacinto and Charlie Barnett. As in typical Star Wars fashion, most of the roles of the upcoming series are still shrouded in mystery, but there is one role that has been released. Rebecca Henderson, who was initially announced to take on the role of a Mirialan Jedi, will now play the part of Vernestra Rwoh, who has been a fan-favourite in Phase I and III of the original comic books. The Acolyte project is helmed by creator Leslye Headland, who also co-created Netflix’s hit drama series Russian Doll with Natasha Lyonne and Amy Poehler.
