Samsung Embraces AI with its New Galaxy S24 Smartphone Range

Revealed at Samsung Unpacked, you can now use on-demand AI from the Galaxy S24 to edit the backgrounds of your photos.

At the Samsung Unpacked event earlier this morning, the company just released its new Galaxy S24 smartphone series, showing off the range’s new Artificial Intelligence (AI) features. The flagship range of phones comes in Samsung’s standard three tiers: the S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra. The S24 Ultra, the most premium of the group, starts from $1,928, while the S24+ and standard S24 start from $1,528 and $1,288 respectively.

The South Korean tech giant’s new release features a wide range of fresh AI additions including smart photo editing that allows users to fill or remove backgrounds or reflections from images. Another key feature that has been added is the Galaxy S24’s ability to circle items or locations from a photo or right from the camera app, and then look up relevant results. This means that you can find out what a specific landmark is called, just by circling it directly on the camera app.

One more exciting addition to the AI scope of the Galaxy S24 is the live transcription service. If you’re on the phone with someone speaking in a different language, your device will be able to provide a live transcription, with the different speakers labelled for easy comprehension. Think Otter.ai but built into your calls. This service is only available across 13 languages at the moment but it promises to be a useful feature of the smartphone range. The Galaxy S24 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset processor for mobile, which is specifically tailored and built for AI devices.

Appearance-wise, the Galaxy S24 range isn’t all that different from its predecessor, the Galaxy S23. Both Ultra products across the ranges share the same diagonal display of 6.8 inches. But the Galaxy S24 is thinner and uses titanium for its external shell – a material that the company says is much sturdier – just like Apple’s iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro which also make use of titanium for the devices’ body.
