Cover Story: Thai Star, Mew Suppasit is a Man of Many
Acting, singing and almost everything in between, Mew Suppasit is a versatile artiste who has captivated the world with his charm and talent.
Actor, singer-songwriter, model, producer, and CEO of his own company — Mew Suppasit nails it all. Having started out in the entertainment industry by appearing in music videos and commercials, the 33-year-old found his acting footing with roles in various Thai romance series like I Am Your King and What the Duck: Final Call; it was his portrayal as Tharn in TharnType: The Series (alongside our April cover star Gulf Kanawut) that truly propelled him to heady heights.
Beyond acting, Mew has made considerable strides in his singing career too. In just four years, he has collaborated with some of the most notable stars globally, including British electronic pop duo Honne, as well as South Korean singers Sam Kim, Bumkey, and, most recently, EXO’s Suho. After a whirlwind month of travel, Mew made a special pitstop in Kuala Lumpur for our cover shoot, gracing the set with his usual gentle yet charming demeanour. Below, we chat about his thoughts on the big “Thai wave”, on acting versus singing, and his aspirations for the future.
The T-wave is making a big splash across the globe right now. How do you feel being a part of that?
I’m really happy about it. I also hope that the world will get to see more works by Thai people. I’d like to thank everyone who has been supporting our work, and I’m looking forward to having more opportunities globally in the future.
How do you handle the pressures and responsibilities that come with being in the spotlight?
Be focused, be open to feedback, and better understand what’s going on around me, all while staying true to myself.
Tell us more about your preparation for each acting role.
Regardless of the role, it’s important to be prepared as much as possible. To try to understand both the story and the character, and most importantly, create ideas that support the script, such as the background and behaviour of the character.
“BE FOCUSED, BE OPEN TO
FEEDBACK, AND BETTER
UNDERSTAND WHAT’S GOING
ON AROUND ME, ALL WHILE
STAYING TRUE TO MYSELF.”
Any particular roles you’d like to explore in the future?
It all depends on the script, but I hope to play a greater variety of characters.
Do acting and singing complement each other?
Definitely. In acting, music helps with the flow and mood of each scene; actors can also imagine the music in the environment to enhance their performance. In music, acting helps with stage performance and how it is delivered to the audience.
From Bumkey to Soho, music collaborations are not new to you. Who’s your one dream artist collaborator?
Ed Sheeran! If I really got the opportunity to collaborate with him, I think I’ll faint before we get started!
Aside from acting and singing, your sense of style has made you one of the most sought-after stars for different luxury brands. How would you describe your off-duty style in three words?
Place, time, and people.
What’s your favourite book?
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.
Describe your dream holiday.
A week in Bora Bora. Relaxing, diving, going to the spa, and getting a seafood feast, all on repeat.
Anything you want to say to Mewlions?
I’d like to thank everyone for their support and love. It’s a pleasure to have you with me on my journey, and I hope we’ll have this relationship for a long time.
What can we expect from you for the rest of 2024?
I will start filming soon. The script is super entertaining and the filming is going to be so tough. So please support and pray for me! [Laughs]
What aspirations do you have for the future, both professionally and personally?
I would love to have more acting work at an international level. I’m also working towards having my own home and business.
