Every Time David Corenswet Stepped Out Looking Like Clark Kent
The actor takes flight in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman, hitting theaters July 11, 2025, and his resemblance to the iconic hero is nothing short of uncanny.
James Gunn’s Superman landed July 11, and anticipation is sky-high for the DC Universe’s latest reboot and its newest Man of Steel. The film has already earned early praise, with critics praising the film and fans hopeful that it signals a new era for the DC Universe.
David Corenswet stars as the one and only Superman, whose character infamously doubles as nerd-by-day Clark Kent. Corenswet—who previously starred in projects ranging from Ryan Murphy's 2020 miniseries Hollywood to the 2022 A24 horror film Pearl—does appear to be the spitting image of Clark Kent anytime he's photographed in a suit. (Somebody, give the casting director a raise.) Corenswet also convinced the 58-year-old director to make some key changes to his costume.
"One of the things [Corenswet] said is that Superman wants kids not to be afraid of him. He's an alien. He's got these incredible powers. He shoots beams out of his eyes and can blow a truck over. He's this incredibly powerful, could be considered a scary individual, and he wants people to like him," Gunn told ScreenRant in an interview on Corenswet's version of the character opting into the bright red trunks. "He wants to be a symbol of hope and positivity. So he dresses like a professional wrestler, he dresses in a way that makes people unafraid of him."
While Corenswet has yet to don the iconic red trunks, he’s already making his mark on red carpets. With the film’s release just around the corner, the press tour is in full flight, offering up a steady stream of Clark Kent-coded looks (sans the glasses).
