Montblanc Celebrates 100 Years of The Iconic Meisterstück
Serenaded by John Legend and cheered on by global stars including Mew Suppasit, the enduring icon of Montblanc, the Meisterstück, celebrated its 100th birthday on the grounds of century-old Paramour Estate
Up on the hills above Sunset Boulevard, the elegant 1920s mansion, Paramour Estate is — quite fittingly — where Montblanc chose to celebrate 100 years of its emblematic Meisterstück. The stars gathered from all around the world in Los Angeles, on the first day of May, to toast to the centenary. Just beside the estate’s outdoor pool, which surrounds an enormous replica of the venerated writing instrument, Japanese actor and singer, Dori Sakurada tells L’OFFICIEL HOMMES SINGAPORE: “Joining Montblanc’s Meisterstück 100th anniversary celebration event, I’m having a great experience meeting so many people and getting inspired.” Ahead of the welcome reception, our May issue cover star, Mew Suppasit is equally buoyant, sharing what comes to mind when he thinks of the Meisterstück today. “It’s [got to be saying] congratulations on 100 years. That’s a long time, you know,” the Thai actor says.
An enduring icon indeed. And a mini 100 Years Meisterstück exhibition at the Paramour Estate attests to that, displaying the writing instrument’s progression and many notable iterations over the years. The icons influence is seen well beyond the realm of writing — many of the evening's celebrities are carrying the Meisterstück Messenger bag. Before an alfresco dinner is served, the German house takes the opportunity to reveal a new Meisterstück-dedicated global campaign, which was written and directed by Oscar-winning American filmmaker, Wes Anderson. The short film welcomes us at the tip of the Mont Blanc mountain, and sends us straight into a fictitious HQ of the brand, where quirky characters are played by British actor, Rupert Friend, American musician and actor, Jason Schwartzman, as well as Anderson himself. Capping off the dinner party, American singer and songwriter, John Legend performed an intimate set, which included his hit, “All of Me”. Legend appeared to tease an upcoming collaboration with the house, before belting out “Happy Birthday” to the true star of the night, the Meisterstück, while two screens grandly displayed the snowy peak of Mont Blanc.
