In watchmaking design, every millimetre counts. Even the slightest change in case sizing can seriously alter the look and feel of a watch. So when Bell & Ross adjusted the dimensions of the BR 03 from 42mm to 41mm, the effects are immediately apparent.
This isn’t the first time Bell & Ross downsized its emblematic “circle in square” design. Inspired by aircraft cockpits and aeronautical instrumentation, the original BR 01 made an impression back in 2005 with its brawny 46mm profile. But not everyone can wear a cockpit clock on their wrist, which is why the 42mm BR 03 was created in 2006, possessing the same spirit but in a more appealing profile.
This year, the BR 03 proportions are refined further — by a mere 1mm! — and the effect is magnified by shortened lugs and a narrower rubber strap. Accompanying these outwardly transformations is a brand new BR-CAL.302 automatic movement, which comes with an extended power reserve of 54 hours.
The refreshed BR 03 collection is a vibrant dashboard epitomising the spirit of refinement and good taste. There are three models in the signature matte black case for a resolutely retro look; three contemporary versions in polished steel with black, blue and brown dials; a copper model with a galvanised metallic dial; and a military-inspired piece that pairs a matte black ceramic case with a khaki dial.
