Fashion Meets Fine Whisky: Olivier Rousteing Enters the Johnnie Walker Vault
Together with Master Blender Dr Emma Walker, the Balmain creative director captures the spirit of the seasons in four bespoke blends.
The first global cultural collaborator to enter the esteemed Johnnie Walker Vault is Olivier Rousteing. Working closely with Master Blender Dr Emma Walker, the Balmain creative director embarked on a year-long creative journey to distill the four seasons into a series of rare, collectible blends.
“For me, the seasons bring different energy and emotions — the feeling of rebirth in Spring, the hazy freedom of Summer, the self-reflection of Fall and the cosiness of home and family in Winter,” says Rousteing.
Each of the resulting Couture Expressions begins with the same luxurious “heart”, which is anchored by rare ghost whiskies from Brora and Port Dundas. Dr Walker then layered in hand-selected whiskies from the Vault (a treasure trove of 500 rare, aged and ghost whiskies), tailoring each blend to Rousteing’s personal memories and inspirations for each season.
The presentation is as exquisite as the liquid inside. Housed inside square crystal decanters handcrafted by Baccarat artisans, the bottles feature a draped design — a nod to Rousteing’s couture roots — and come in four metallic shades representing each season. Topped with sculptural wing-shaped stoppers, they capture the essence of the Johnnie Walker mantra; “When I think of Johnnie Walker and Keep Walking, I think of the pursuit of excellence and no limits,” explains the Rousteing. “I think of ‘keep walking until you fly!’”
