The K-pop idol dropped his very first collection &lsquo;Petit Coussin&rsquo; on his birthday.

On his birthday on 7 November, ATEEZ captain Hongjoong dropped his inaugural fashion collection named Petit Coussin. Featuring 24 looks inspired by his childhood at his mother&rsquo;s children clothing <a href="https://www.hommessingapore.com/style/louis-vuitton-unveils-expanded-mens-store-takashimaya-shopping-centre-pharrell-williams-fashion-menswear" target="_blank" rel="noopener">shop</a> of the same name (which means &ldquo;little cushion&rdquo; in French), the showcase marked the very first time a <a href="https://www.hommessingapore.com/style/tws-celine-brand-ambassador-k-pop-celebrity-music-fashion-news" target="_blank" rel="noopener">K-pop</a> idol has ever designed and presented a full <a href="https://www.hommessingapore.com/style/lewis-hamilton-dior-fall-2025-capsule-collection-fashion-celebrity-collaboration-f1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">fashion collection</a>. We chat with the freshly-turned 27-year-old about this unique project and what it means to him.

Happy Birthday and congratulations on your fashion debut! How are you feeling? Honestly, it&rsquo;s been both stressful and exciting. I feel that I&rsquo;ve grown a lot through preparing for this, and it truly feels like I&rsquo;ve made a dream come true, one I never thought I&rsquo;d be able to realise.
What made you decide to do a fashion collection? Creating fashion has been one of my long-time dreams. Every year, I use my birthday as a time to express my creativity and challenge myself in new ways, and this year, I decided to take that a step further by designing clothes myself. It always felt like something far out of reach, so being able to actually bring it to life means a lot to me.
Petit Coussin is inspired by your childhood at your mom&rsquo;s children&rsquo;s clothing shop. Share with us one memorable moment from that time. When my mom ran her store, there was a small storage room next to it full of clothes. That place was like the best playground for me. I still remember running around with my brother and playing with hangers as toys. With Petit Coussin, I wanted to bring back that same warmth and sense of innocence from those memories.

The collection has a youthful vibe. Is it true that young people can wear anything and look good? I think that&rsquo;s true. When you&rsquo;re young, there are fewer expectations and standards about what you should wear, which allows you to express yourself more freely and innocently. It&rsquo;s also an age where you&rsquo;re more accepting of yourself rather than being shaped by others&rsquo; perceptions, and that authenticity naturally makes anything look good.
What&rsquo;s your favourite look from the collection? I love all of them, but one of my favourites is the last look &mdash; the grey coat and jeans. It was inspired by an old childhood photo of myself, so it feels very personal and special.
As a style icon, what is your relationship with fashion like? Fashion is simply a natural part of my life. It&rsquo;s not just about wearing clothes, it&rsquo;s another way of expressing myself. Through fashion, I feel free, and I can shape who I am in different ways depending on my mood or what I&rsquo;m feeling at the time.

Who do you follow in fashion today? I&rsquo;ve been keeping an eye on many different designers lately, but recently I&rsquo;ve been following <a href="https://www.instagram.com/robertwun/?hl=en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Robert Wun</a> quite a lot. I find it fascinating to study how designers translate their ideas into sketches and develop their concepts &mdash; it&rsquo;s really inspiring to see their creative process.
How would you describe your personal style, and does it influence the clothes you design? If I had to describe my style, I&rsquo;d just say it&rsquo;s &ldquo;me&rdquo;. I believe it has to feel natural to be real, so my personal style naturally finds its way into what I design. But it&rsquo;s not only that &mdash; everything I see, hear, feel and dream about also becomes part of what shapes my work.
Finally, can we expect more fashion projects from you in the future? I&rsquo;d really love to keep doing more fashion projects in the future. There&rsquo;s still so much I want to learn and try. This experience helped me connect with fashion on a deeper level, and someday, I hope to show something that reflects my style even more honestly.
