Cover Story: Tor Thanapob in Paradise
In the wake of two successful series, the beloved Thai actor takes some time off to enjoy the fruits of his labour, dressed in lovely Loro Piana.
When we last spoke to Tor Thanapob in our June 2024 issue, he was preparing for his upcoming roles in My Cherie Amour and Spare Me Your Mercy. In the wake of those two series, the Thai actor has also kept busy with numerous fashion events and even a surprise Nine By Nine mini-reunion at PP Krit’s “My Pleasure” concert. We thought it’d be nice to catch up and give him some respite from his schedule, whisking him off to a fantasy island set for a bit of R&R.
Hi Tor! How have you been? Did you enjoy the shoot?
Hello! Currently, I’m preparing to shoot a new project. But I had so much fun on set today with L’OFFICIEL HOMMES SINGAPORE. I really liked both the clothes and the style of the shoot — I hope all the fans will like it too.
The “castaway” set for this shoot looks amazing! What would you bring along if you were stuck on a deserted island?
I’d probably want to bring along a ferro rod to start a fire. There was a time when I was really into watching survival videos on remote islands or in the jungle — they looked so cool! [Laughs]
For this shoot, you are dressed in Loro Piana linen looks that are perfect for island vacations. Where is your perfect island getaway?
If I had to describe my dream island getaway, it’d be a somewhere private where I can be with my family. I love the sea, so I’d just want to lie down on the beach, enjoy the breeze, and listen to the waves.
The last time we spoke (in our June 2024 issue), you mentioned that you wanted to focus on acting more than anything else. Has that changed in 2025?
That hasn’t changed. But the older I get, the more open-minded I’ve become. I’m also more aware of my likes and dislikes.
What do you enjoy most about acting?
I think actors all have their own personal inspirations. For me, acting is kind of like painting. It’s a way for me to express my art without being confined to a specific form. It’s makes me truly happy every time I get to do it.
Your two recent series My Cherie Amour and Spare Me Your Mercy appear to be quite well-received, so congratulations!
Thank you so much! I’m really happy that everyone enjoyed both projects. I watched them when they aired, along with the fans. Those around me seem to like both series as well; they felt it was great to see me play two very different characters within the same year.
In My Cherie Amour and Spare Me Your Mercy, both your co-leads develop romantic feelings for your characters. Are you someone who falls in love easily in real life?
I don’t think so. Perhaps I do, but I don’t realise it right away!
Spare Me Your Mercy was your first leading role in a BL series, together with your co-star Jaylerr. What was the most exciting part for you when tackling the role?
What got me interested and made me decide to take on the role was the storyline. I think it brings up really meaningful questions [about euthanesia] that we don’t often get to talk about. When I found out that [the book the show is based on] is going to be made into a series, I wanted the opportunity to be one of the people to help tell this story.
Speaking of Jaylerr, Nine By Nine had a surprise mini-reunion during PP Krit’s “My Pleasure” concert in March. How did it feel to be on stage with the group again? Any plans for a full comeback?
The surprise appearance at PP’s concert was one of the most memorable and heartwarming moments for me. The nine of us had so much fun that day, so huge thanks to PP for giving us the opportunity and inviting us to be part of such a big event. I was also really happy to perform in front of the fans again. As for an official reunion, that might be something for the future — our schedules are so hard to align these days! It was already a miracle for all of us to come together for this concert. But please stay tuned for what’s next.
Do you still enjoy performing music? How is it different from acting?
I still feel excited and happy every time I sing, but what makes me even happier is getting to perform in front of fans. The difference between acting and singing, for me, lies in the communication. With acting, I use my body and emotions to express myself, while singing requires more focus on the voice. But oftentimes, singing feels more liberating.
Earlier this year, you also attended the Siam Paragon World Fashion Trend Spring/Summer 2025. Share with us your favourite menswear trends for 2025.
I think minimalism will continue to be popular. One way to make it fun and interesting is to add one or more vintage or classic pieces. That’ll give the look more character.
Acting, music, fashion — you’ve done it all. Is this how you pictured it would be when you first started out in entertainment?
I would’ve never imagined I’d get to where I am today. I never thought I’d come this far, or have so many lovely people who support me. I honestly cannot imagine doing any other job. I’m truly happy with what I’m doing right now.
You’ve had such a giant journey, and you would naturally have encountered a lot of people along the way. Do you have someone that impacted you that you haven’t thought about in a long time?
Not really. Everyone who has come into my life since I started working in this industry, they’re all important people that I’ll never forget.
What chapter is this for you in your life? What would you call this chapter?
Where I am in my life right now is probably the middle of the book. I’d name this chapter “A Once-In-A-Lifetime Marathon”.
Finally, what’s next for Tor? Any upcoming project you’d like to share with us?
First, I’d like give a shoutout to L’OFFICIEL HOMMES SINGAPORE. I’d also like to thank all the fans for their support; I hope we get to meet more often in the future. This year, I plan to really focus on producing new projects that everyone can look forward to — please wait for me! A little spoiler: if you missed seeing me in movies, you wont have to wait too long; we might get to meet again very soon. Please stay tuned!
